While men may differ in their beliefs concerning non-essential doctrines such as mode of baptism, form of government, and the frequency of communion, there are certain essential doctrines, which are commonly believed by all true Christians. Among these doctrines are the beliefs that the Bible is the authoritative Word of God and the only infallible rule for faith and life; the deity of Christ; salvation as the gift of God through the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ on the cross; the bodily resurrection of our Lord from the dead; and His coming again to rapture the Church.
